Fact or Fiction

1.      Botox® is a dangerous poison
Fiction.  In fact, it would take 100 times the average dose given to treat lines and wrinkles for serious complications to develop.  Even Tylenol® and Aspirin® can have very serious complications when administered in high doses.  Botox® is made from a highly purified from of botulinum toxin.  To prepare Botox® for treatment it is mixed with sterile saline.  Over time, the body naturally eliminates Botox®, which is why the treatment is temporary.

2.      Botox® will make my face look frozen and unnatural
Fiction.  Botox® works by temporarily relaxing the muscle, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.  This leaves the face with a more youthful, pleasant appearance.  You will still be able to express yourself with your face…just without the wrinkles!

3.      I can’t afford Botox®
Fiction.  According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) more than 3.1 million American’s received Botox® injections in 2006.  Additionally, the ASAPS lists Botox® among the most affordable nonsurgical cosmetic treatments.  When you consider that the benefits of Botox® can be expected to last for 3-4 months, your Botox® treatment may cost less than the amount of a cup of coffee every day.

4.      Botox is Dangerous
Fiction. Botox has been used to treat medical conditions such as muscle spasms, tremors and vocal cord disorders for more than 20 years.

5.      Fillers can be used in place of Botox®
Fiction. Botox in an agent which temporarily relaxes muscle activity that causes wrinkles.  Juvederm, on the other hand, is a gel which is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that is naturally occurring in your body.  When Juvederm is placed under the skin it attracts water and adds natural looking, youthful volume.  Juvederm does not inhibit muscle activity and it is completely undetectable under your skin.

6.      Fillers don’t make wrinkles completely disappear
Fiction. During your initial consultation, Dr. Fagman will speak with you about your desired goal and assess the lines and folds that you wish to correct.  Depending upon the severity of your wrinkles, Dr. Fagman will determine the amount of product you will need to achieve complete correction (make your wrinkles completely disappear).

7.      Cosmetic procedures are only for the vain
Fiction.
